| Once called Halikarnassus,
Bodrum is a town of markets, and small alley-ways. It
also has the most beautiful beaches.
A port town, 270 km. south of Izmir, on the Aegean
coast, built around the harbour, and under the watchfull
eye of St Peters Castle. The 30,000 or so inhabitants
engage in agriculture, boat-building, fishing, and weaving
(with carpets a speciality) and more recently tourism.
Bodrum has become famous for it's art community with
its lively, friendly and Bohemian atmosphere, with many
small galleries around the town.
The many restaurants, which of course serve a multitude
of fresh seafood and other Aegean specialties cater
to the locals and tourises alike. For those with a desire
to carry on into the night, there are a number of night
clubs and cabarets.
